Support our Humanitarian Work

Positive Action in Housing Ltd

Charity Registration No: SCO27577

persecuted there - destitute here

We can't show you their faces, or tell you their names or which country they're from. He is a highly skilled doctor, 68 years old, and has a serious heart problem. They had to flee their home and country.

Why? Because he was doing his job as a doctor and a senior government official did not want him to. They had to leave and lost everything. They sent their children into hiding, and got on the first flight away. There was no choice. It is not safe for them to return.

You’d think they would get help but their asylum claim was refused. Their NASS support was stopped. Sheriff Officers instructed by the Council issued an eviction order. They aren’t allowed recourse to public funds, i.e. homeless units, hostels. The street was their only option. When they came to us, they were relying on handouts from neighbours, and visiting the mosque for meals. We are now supporting them on a weekly basis out of our hardship fund. Our caseworkers are arguing for Social Work to provide housing. You can help us help others.

Why do we need donations?

Every day, Positive Action in Housing deals with clients who have been left destitute (i.e. without a home, money or possessions) by the government. These people are not allowed to be given any kind of public funding (such as Government money, lottery funding etc) so the only way we can help them pay for food and accommodation is by relying on private donations. To find out more about destitute asylum seekers and how we help them, visit our destitution service page.

How can you donate?

Cheque

To make a one-off donation send your cheque, along with this form, to:

Positive Action in Housing

98 West George Street

Glasgow

G2 1PJ

Standing Order

To make a regular donation, send this form to the address above.

Payroll Giving

Why not give a regular donation to Positive Action in Housing using Give As You Earn (GAYE)? You decide how much you want to donate, and the donation will be taken straight from your salary each month. The best part is, you won’t have to pay any tax on it. In fact, the extra amount that you would normally pay to the tax office will be given, by them, to the charity on top of the amount you donate. For example, if you donate £3.90, the tax office will add to this and the charity will receive £5.00. If you want to give a regular donation in this way, simply ask your employer if they run a GAYE scheme. If not, you can nominate your employer here. Don’t worry – you can remain anonymous!

Donate Online

Just click here. If you have a credit or debit card, you can make a completely secure online donation. Making a donation online is a mutually beneficial and convenient way to give, since it is:

·         Quick - Your donation reaches us immediately and we can put it to use straight away.

·         Cost effective - There are less administrative costs involved enabling more of your pound to go towards the cause.

·         Environmentally friendly - It's a paperless facility that requires no postage, which is also cost effective.

Shop Online

Use this site to shop online with over 100 retailers including Tesco, Marks and Spencers and HMV. The difference is, you can raise money for Positive Action in Housing at the same time – without spending anything extra. It’s simple: if you shop through this site, rather than directly with the retailers themselves, we earn commission out of the retailers’ profit margin. This means that you get to do your shopping from the comfort of your own home, without spending any more than you would in store, and we benefit from it at the same time.

Search the Web

Think of the number of times every day you use search engines like Google to find the information you want on the internet. Imagine if you could raise money for Positive Action in Housing every time you did this. Well, now you can. And the best part is – it’s free! By using everyclick you can search the web in just the same way as you do normally. All you have to do is click here and scroll down, then click on the link that says ‘Join Them’. Then keep using everyclick to search the web, and we will receive a proportion of the site’s revenue (which it generates from advertising fees).

Have a Party

Are you having a birthday or Christmas party, anniversary or wedding? Are you tired of receiving presents that you just put away in a drawer and never use? Why not ask your guests to make a donation to charity instead? By using egoodie you can keep up to half of all the money collected to buy your own presents, and donate the rest to Positive Action in Housing. That way you get presents that you really want, and make a good impression on all your party guests.

Donate Your Tax Rebate

Did you know you can donate some or all of any money you are owed by Inland Revenue to a charity of your choice? If you wish to support Positive Action in Housing in this way, simply write our charity number (SCO27577) in the appropriate box on your next tax self assessment form. Any donations made in this way will be automatically gift-aided so we will receive an extra 25% on top of what you choose to donate, at no extra cost to you.

Gift in Your Will

Leaving a gift to Positive Action in Housing in your will is perhaps the most special way of ensuring that we can continue to support vulnerable people in the future. Your gift needn’t be big, but it will go directly towards our charitable work. Many supporters choose to leave a residue of their estate once they have provided for loved ones.

If you would like to leave a gift to Positive Action in Housing in your will, we ask that you contact your solicitor who is best placed to advise you. We do not require any particular wording but you will need to mention our name, address and charity number as follows:

Administrative Manager

Positive Action in Housing
98 West George Street

Glasgow G2 1PJ

Charity no. SCO27577

Tel: 0141 353 2220

Finally, we would be grateful if you would inform us of your gift. If you would like to discuss leaving a gift in your will, then please email Positive Action in Housing or call 0141 353 2220.
