PAIH are requesting donations to our urgent 2012 Appeal for Destitute Asylum Seekers - donate online now via JustGiving .

Positive Action in Housing (Scottish Registered Charity No SC027577) is a homelessness charity which provides a hardship fund and emergency free shelter for destitute people seeking asylum. The Hardship fund gives crisis payments to those at risk of being destitute. This Christmas, we desperately need donations to allow us to continue this much needed humanitarian work. We are facing one of the severest winters and need to ensure we can give additional support to those people who need it.

Destitute asylum seekers are not allowed to work or take benefits or homeless accommodation. Many have fallen into long term destitution and are now part of Europe's growing population of “invisible citizens” because they are unable to return to unsafe conditions in their countries of origin.

  • £5 provides money for at least one meal a day for a destitute pregnant woman.
  • £10 pays for a sleeping bag.
  • £20 provides money for food for one week for a young woman under 21, and free shelter in the homes of one of our volunteers. This simple measure prevents her being sexually exploited, or worse.
  • £35 provides food and essential bus fares for one week for a destitute adult and child.
  • £60 pays for an advice session at Positive Action in Housing, where people can be referred to accommodation volunteers and get specialist help for their asylum case, or for other circumstances which make them vulnerable, for example, mental health, rape trauma or other problems.
  • £100 will provide enough money for a second hand pram, baby clothes and warm blankets for a new baby.

Please help us reach those in greatest need and give a donation today. ALL money will go directly towards providing humanitarian relief to service users. Any donations, however small, are enormously appreciated.
