Cultural Awareness Training

Course Outline:

This one day course will give you a deeper understanding of some of the key cultural differences and communication barriers affecting people including black minority ethnic communities. It will enhance your organisation’s interpersonal communications. You will be able to recognise the needs of different groups of people and effectively adapt the approach you use with service users.

This course is highly participative, involving case studies, group exercises and open discussion. Course packs are comprehensive.

Who should attend?

Anyone who works with service users from diverse, multiracial backgrounds; anyone working in social work, housing, welfare, education, employment, health, community development or the justice system.

Course Outcomes:

• Understand the extent to which culture impacts the way in which we interact with one another
• Be able to describe some of the ways in which different groups of people may differ in terms of customs and practices, and ways of communicating;
• Know how to communicate effectively and overcome language barriers
• Be equipped to effectively review and update your organisation’s policy and practice accordingly.
