Each December, Positive Action holds an annual Winter  Surgery. We provide practical resources, signposting and crucially crisis support to help impoverished and destitute refugees and asylum seekers and their children make it through Christmas and survive the harsh winter period. We have our Homelessness team and plenty of volunteers on hand. The surgery primarily assists people from refugee and asylum seeking communities in Glasgow, although we will provide grant requests from elsewhere.

Our winter surgery operates over a two-week period in the run up to Christmas. We have already received 345 referrals for help and have received referrals from GPS, Health Visitors, Churches, Faith Groups etc. Safety during Covid 19 takes priority. We will provide food packs, bus passes, winter wear, winter care packs, PPE, and hygiene packs.

Rebuilding lives

We aim to support 400 families and individuals, including 200 children.

Our caseworkers and sessional workers are multilingual.

233 out of 345 families and individuals referred so far (at 18/11/2021) are living on between £0 and £39 per week. Around 80 families and individuals are staying in hotels without any money and have not had proper access to a GP.
