BRP Card
The Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) is a government-issued physical card carried by Refugees and immigrants in the UK as a form of identification. In addition to your name and birthplace, the permit will also contain biometric information (your photo and fingerprints), and information about the specific status that you hold.
For those who have just got refugee status or leave to remain, Here are the steps for collecting BRP card from Post Office:
- Call the post office in advance and check if the BRP card is available, sometimes the card is not arrived or it was returned to the Home Office because of a long delay in collection.
- If the person is under 18 years old he/she must be accompanied by a “Responsible Adult” approved by the Home Office, if not, the applicant will be turned away by the Post Office staff. The applicant or sponsor should complete the “Collect BRP” form available on https://www.biometric-residence-permit.service.gov.uk/someone-else/arrange and get the approval from HO before going to Post Office. The approval will take 5 working days.
- The applicant/sponsor must carry the decision letter and her BRP card while collecting the BRP
- The person collecting the BRP belonging to the family group must present the travel documents (and vignettes) of everyone whose permit they want to collect.
The applicant must be present for physical identification.
Once the BRP is received the applicant or the sponsor must check his/her details on the card. If there is a mistake, notify the HO within 10 working days of receiving the card here, or with the assistance of migrant help.
