From refugee to resilience: Dr Hashem Salim
Hashem, a 30-year-old orthopaedic surgeon from Gaza, addressed our 29th AGM gathering in Glasgow, recounting his extraordinary journey from asylum seeker to NHS doctor. His speech revealed the devastating impact of genocide on his family and the transformative impact of our humanitarian work on his life. His story is a poignant reflection of the horrors right now being faced by countless Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank.

Over 5,000 antiracists in Scotland showed that supporters of refugees are the majority in society, with a massive show of solidarity in response to a planned anti-immigration rally organised by the far-right who turned out less than 500.

Positive Action In Housing Partnership with gas distribution network SGN

Let refugees work
In 2000, the UK govt engaged in an act of self-harm by forcing asylum seekers in this country NOT to work or save money; NOT to pay their own rent; NOT to pay for their own food, heating and living costs. Instead, the state paid for it. And that has been the case for 24 years.

Home Sweet home from Glasgow
Home Sweet Home for 28-year-old Suliman, from Iraq who received a positive asylum decision recently after spending a year staying in a hotel provided by the Home Office asylum housing contractor Mears group. When he contacted us a few weeks ago, he lived in an empty flat.
